Dr. Elaine O’Loughlin

Associate Director of Research Initiatives

Dr. Elaine O’Loughlin is a neuroscientist who brings over 10 years of neuroscience research experience to her role as Associate Director of Research Initiatives at CURE Epilepsy.

Dr. O’Loughlin is originally from Dublin, Ireland. She completed her doctoral training focused on neurodevelopment and temporal lobe epilepsy at University College Cork. In 2014, her passion for neuroscience, specifically inflammation in brain diseases/disorders, brought her across the pond to Boston, where she spent many years in academic research to pharmaceutical drug discovery.

Dr. O’Loughlin’s daughter was diagnosed with a rare form of pediatric epilepsy which evolved into drug resistant epilepsy. The impact this has had on her and her family, has motivated her transition to CURE Epilepsy. She is passionate about epilepsy research, communication and advocating. In this role, she bridges her neuroscience knowledge and personal experiences to drive our research programs and initiatives.

Dr. O’Loughlin holds a BSc in Biochemistry, as well as a MSc and PhD in Neuroscience. In her spare time, she loves the swimming, especially open water swimming in New England and Ireland.
